GCAA organises Exhibition & Open Day to showcase aviation excellence as part of 40th anniversary activities

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, organised an Exhibition and Open Day event as part of activities marking its 40th anniversary celebration at the forecourt of the Air Navigation Services Complex and the Air Traffic Control Centre at the Accra International Airport.
The event brought together students, teachers, aviation enthusiasts and members of the general public to learn more about the operations and achievements of the Authority and its stakeholders.

It served as a platform for the GCAA to showcase its core responsibilities, including aviation safety regulations, provision of air navigation services, and the management of the Accra Flight Information Region.
Other organisations that participated in the exhibition included the Ghana Air Force, AXIS Drone, Fidelity Bank, Prudential Bank, among others.
Several schools also took part in the event, including Achimota Senior High School, Accra Girls’ Senior High School, Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Pilot Training Institute, University of Ghana, University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Ghana International School (GIS), Accra Technical University as well as kindergarten pupils from Scholars Point Academy, who were excited to experience the world of aviation firsthand.

Opening the Exhibition and Open Day, the Director-General of GCAA, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, described the occasion as an important opportunity for the Authority to showcase its journey of excellence, professionalism and commitment to safety and security in the aviation industry.
“This exhibition gives us the opportunity to show how far the GCAA has come on the wheels of excellence, professionalism and maintaining very high standards of safety and security at all times,” he said.

Rev. Arthur noted that the event was not only intended for external stakeholders and visitors, but also for staff members of the Authority to better understand the work of different departments within the organisation.
“It is good for us within GCAA to know what other departments do and how they go about their work so that we can confidently explain the basics of our operations to the public,” he stated.
He added that the exhibition was also meant to promote learning, teamwork and the exchange of ideas among staff and stakeholders.
“This is not just about seeing exhibitions. It is also another platform for ideation, for cross-fertilisation of thoughts and suggestions so that together we can improve and excel even better,” Rev. Arthur said.

Touching on Ghana’s aviation ambitions, the Director-General expressed optimism about the country’s vision of becoming an aviation hub in the region.
According to him, President John Dramani Mahama remains passionate about infrastructure development and the growth of the aviation industry.
“He is so passionate about infrastructure development and opening up the aviation industry like no other,” Rev. Arthur remarked, adding that many of the aviation infrastructure projects seen today could be traced to the President’s vision and agenda for the sector.

He encouraged participants to take advantage of the event to learn more about aviation and contribute ideas towards the continued growth of the industry.
Rev. Arthur officially declared the Exhibition and Open Day open, describing it as a significant part of the Authority’s 40th anniversary celebrations and its continued commitment to public engagement and aviation excellence in Ghana.
