Event Highlights
The award ceremony was graced by the presence of the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The event marked the 5th anniversary of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) and was held under the theme “Five Years of Championing Specified Entities’ Governance and Growth: The Challenges and the Way Forward.” This theme highlighted the progress made by state-owned enterprises and the ongoing challenges they face.
Purpose of the PELT Awards
The PELT awards aim to reward hardworking and profitable entities while motivating others to strive for excellence. By recognizing outstanding performance, the awards encourage state-owned enterprises to improve their operations and contribute more effectively to national development.
GCAA’s Achievements
The GCAA, which serves as the regulator and air navigation service provider for Ghana’s aviation industry, faced stiff competition from about 64 other state-owned enterprises. Despite this, the GCAA emerged as the best SOE of the year, a testament to its exceptional performance and dedication.
The Authority continues to elevate Ghana’s profile in the aviation industry, both domestically and internationally. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) often refers to the GCAA as a champion state within the subregion, reflecting its high standards and achievements.
Commitment to Safety and Security
One of the key factors behind the GCAA’s success is its unwavering commitment to safety and security. The Authority ensures that the Accra Flight Information Region (Ghana’s airspace) remains one of the safest in the world by adhering to stringent safety and security standards. This commitment not only enhances the safety of air travel but also boosts confidence in Ghana’s aviation sector.
Dedication and Team Effort
The Director-General, Ing. Charles Kraikue who was excited about the awards attributed the achievements to the commitment and dedication of the GCAA Board, Management, and especially Staff of the Authority. Adding that “Their collective efforts have been instrumental in driving the Authority’s success and maintaining its reputation as a leading entity in the aviation industry.”
