ICAO/China Capacity-Building Initiative Commences in Ghana
Addressing the opening ceremony of the ICAO Civil Aviation Authority Senior and Middle Managers Training Course in Accra, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Aviation, Mr. Yaw Afful (2nd right), lauded the initiative, made possible through the generous support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, within the framework of its South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund.
He noted that the course would directly support key priorities of ICAO’s No Country Left Behind capacity-building initiative aimed at enhancing compliance with the UN specialized aviation agency’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS), and encouraged the over 20 participants attending the five-day training programme to optimize the numerous benefits it offers.
Delivering remarks in support of this, the Deputy Director-General for Technical Services at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Ing. Charles Kraikue (right), said that air traffic volumes globally tend to double every 15 years, adding that the skills realized from the course would enhance the sector’s sustainability and strengthen the longstanding contributions that have established air transport as a veritable economic lifeline for many in Ghana.
Both leaders recognized the crucial importance of the course to Ghana’s commitment to continued compliance, and thanked ICAO and the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the initiative.
