The Aeronautical Search and Rescue service in the Accra FIR is a State function provided by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).The Aeronautical Search and Rescue unit has established a Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) adjacent to the Area Control Centre. The Search and Rescue service is provided in accordance with the provisions of Annex 12 (Search and Rescue), aeronautical and maritime search and rescue manual (IAMSAR) Volumes 1, 2, and 3 (DOC9731) the regional supplementary procedures (Doc7030) the Ghana Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Emergency Preparedness Plan and Precedures and the Search and Rescue Manual.

The SAR service is provided to all Flights within the Accra FIR irrespective of the location, nationality or circumstances.
