Transport Minister Leads Ghana\u2019s Delegation to 42nd ICAO Assembly<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Ghana\u2019s delegation to the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada, led by Transport Minister Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ghana has joined 192 other member states of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) at its 42nd Triennial Assembly in Montreal, with Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe leading the country\u2019s delegation.<\/p>\n

The two-week programme, which opened on 23 September 2025, runs until 3 October 2025. It brings together governments, regulators, and aviation experts to deliberate on ICAO\u2019s work programme covering safety, security, legal, economic, and technical cooperation matters.<\/p>\n

At the opening ceremony, ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano urged member states to intensify collaboration to address emerging challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cCivil aviation is at a crossroads, facing pressing issues such as cybersecurity threats, climate change, and uneven access to aviation technologies,\u201d Sciacchitano said. \u201cThe Assembly must demonstrate unity and ambition to ensure that no state is left behind as we transform the future of aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Nikpe is scheduled to address the Assembly on 27 September 2025, where he will highlight Ghana\u2019s achievements in aviation safety, infrastructure development, and regulatory reforms.<\/p>\n

He is also expected to rally support for African states seeking election or re-election to ICAO\u2019s governing body.<\/p>\n

\u201cGhana stands firmly with our African partners as we pursue stronger representation at ICAO,\u201d Mr. Nikpe said ahead of his address. \u201cTogether, we will ensure Africa\u2019s voice is heard in shaping global aviation policy, particularly in the areas of safety, sustainability, and innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ghana\u2019s track record at ICAO remains strong. At the 40th Assembly in 2019, the country received two ICAO Council President\u2019s Certificates in Aviation Security and Safety after achieving an Effective Implementation (E.I.) rate of 89.89 per cent\u2014one of the highest among African states.<\/p>\n

Ghana is expected to use the Assembly to deepen cooperation with other states, promote regional solidarity, and contribute to shaping global aviation policies on safety, sustainability, and technological innovation.<\/p>\n
