Meet the Aviation Club of Ghana Aviation Club Ghana is an assemblage of keen aviation aficionados aiming to identify, gather and develop a generation of young individuals who will have skill, character and a passionate attitude to boost the aviation industry in Ghana. Since its establishment four years ago, then by some students of the University of Ghana, several chapters have been replicated across the country in various tertiary institutions with yet more grounds to cover. Its online network (www.aviationclubghana.ning.com) gives the opportunity to Ghanaians in the diaspora and those within the means to connect and share ideas on aviation. Aviation Club Ghana has undertaken diverse fora and conferences with experts within the industry as resource persons, organized career training programmes, educational excursions, sought internship slots within the industry for members and coordinated both indoor and outdoor activities such as flight simulation and aircraft modelling. The club’s regular Aviation Career Conference brings together enthusiasts wishing to chart career paths in aviation as well as experts within the industry. The 4th Aviation Career Conference this year attracted eminent aviators including the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey who shared invaluable experience with the hopefuls and assured them of the great prospects lurking in wait for them within the growing industry. The club has amazing goals for aviation in Ghana and Africa subsequently, such as the setting up of chapters in all ten regions of Ghana. Talk of ‘Vision 2020’, the ultimate goal club is for every regional branch of the club to acquire a basic training in aircraft management. Through periodic articles and media publicity, the club is gradually igniting the interest of the youth in general aviation and demystifying the myths surrounding air travel in Africa in order to promote air travel. At present, plans are underway to establish wings in Benin and Senegal. |
