GHANA CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY SWEARS IN AUDIT COMMITTEE
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), in collaboration with the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) has constituted a five (5) member Audit Committee in compliance with the provisions in Section 86 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), which requires government institutions to establish an independent audit committee.
The committee is chaired Mr.Charles Oduro-Nyarko, a representative from the Internal Audit Agency. Other members are, Mr. Frank Gamadey (Internal Audit Agency), Mr.Mark Ofori-Amanfo (Institute of Chartered Accountants), Mrs Ernestina Swatson Eshun and Grp Capt. Eric Agyen-Frempong, representatives from the Board of Directors of the Authority.
Inaugurating the Committee at a brief ceremony at the premises of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Director General, Ing Simon Allotey, charged the members to live up to its commitment as a regulatory body , adding that, ‘’management was ever present to offer their support in the discharge of their duties’’.
The Ag. Director General of the IAA, Mr.Ransford Adjei who swore in the committee, advised them to discharge their work professionally having in mind their core mandate to advice and direct management in the proper implementation of recommendations contained in internal and external audit reports.
He further admonished the members to be confidential, objective and make accountability and transparency their trademark.
Other functions of the Committee are to facilitate, support, persuade and advice Management to ensure that transactions, actions and activities are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, especially, the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act.
The committee is expected to run for a period of two (2) years and is subject to renewal by the appointing authorities for another two years. A member shall not be appointed for more than two terms.
